Kasprowy Wierch: Cable Car, Tickets and Queue Time

Updated October 28, 2026 · 4 min read

Cable-car summit station on a snowy ridge above a wide valley

Buy a timed ticket before travelling to Kuźnice if Kasprowy Wierch is a priority. The cable car has limited capacity, while a ticket bought at the lower station is only for current-day availability. An online ticket avoids the ticket-office queue; it does not remove the need to arrive before your allocated departure and follow the boarding line.

What the ticket controls

The journey has two sections with a change at Myślenickie Turnie and takes roughly 20 minutes. A standard return ticket also assigns the descent, so the time at the top is not open-ended. PKL’s usual return window gives enough time for the viewing area and a short walk, not a substantial ridge hike.

Online sales close before departure, and prices vary by date, time and ticket type. Check the official PKL shop rather than copying an old fare. The cable-car ticket includes admission to Tatra National Park. If you walk up and hope to buy only the descent, remember that the upper station has a limited pool and gives priority to passengers already holding a ticket for a specific time.

Where queues form

There are three different delays: reaching Kuźnice, buying a ticket and boarding. Private traffic access to Kuźnice is restricted, so use local public transport, a taxi or walk from Zakopane. A prepaid ticket solves only the second delay. In holiday periods, arrive with a margin rather than at the printed minute.

Weather is the other uncertainty. Cloud can erase the panorama, and strong conditions can interrupt operations. Check the operating notice and mountain forecast before leaving your accommodation. A flexible day is better than forcing an expensive ascent into cloud.

Cable car both ways or walk one way?

Ride both ways if the view is the purpose, you have limited time or you are not equipped for a mountain descent. Walking down is a real hike on rocky, uneven trails, not a shortcut through a city park. It requires suitable footwear, daylight and conditions within your ability.

For other highland options, browse Tatra mountain trips and cable cars and viewpoints. Kasprowy Wierch works best when the ticket, transport to Kuźnice and weather are treated as three separate decisions.
