Gubałówka: Funicular, View and the Best Way to Visit
Updated October 28, 2026 · 4 min read
Gubałówka is the easiest high view from central Zakopane, but it is a developed ridge rather than a wilderness summit. The lower funicular station is near the market below Krupówki, the ride takes only a few minutes, and the top combines a Tatra panorama with food stalls and seasonal attractions.
Funicular up, then take your time
The return ticket is flexible within operating hours rather than tied to a short summit slot. That makes Gubałówka easier than Kasprowy Wierch for families and travellers who dislike rigid schedules. On busy days the railway may run continuously, yet queues still form at the entrance and at popular viewpoints.
Check the current PKL timetable and ticket in the official shop. Prices and opening hours change by season. A one-way ticket can make sense if you plan to walk the ridge or descend on foot, but confirm the route and daylight instead of assuming every visible path leads conveniently to town.
The Butorowy Wierch and Gubałówka outing is useful when you want pickup and a structured combination rather than only the three-minute ascent.
When the view is worth it
Go on a clear morning or late afternoon when the Tatra skyline is visible. Low cloud can reduce the experience to shops and a short railway ride. In peak periods, move away from the immediate upper station before judging the place; the ridge gives more breathing room after the first cluster of stalls.
Gubałówka is a good choice with children because the transport is simple, but the commercial attractions add costs quickly. Decide before going whether you want only the view, a meal or paid activities. For a quieter mountain feeling, choose a genuine trail day instead.
Compare more cable cars and viewpoints. Gubałówka works best as a flexible half-day or sunset stop, not as a substitute for hiking in the Tatras.
